The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete has appointed Prof. Jamidu Katima to be the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) with immediate effect.
Prof. Katima, who takes over the chairmanship of EWURA Board of Directors from Mr. Simon Sayore whose tenure ended in June, is a professor of chemical engineering currently working at the University of Dar es Salaam.
Until his appointment, he was the chairman of EWURA Consumers Consultative Council (EWURA CCC), where he has worked since its inception.
Prof. Katima attended Leeds University for his doctorate studies in 1990, Loughborough University for Master of Philosophy in 1986, and Dar Es Salaam University for Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1982.
He has a vast experience in administration, obtained, amongst others, from various boards in local and international organisations. He is a winner of Nobel Peace Prize of 2007 as one of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) scientists who contributed to the co-award of the Nobel Peace Prize to IPCC and Al Gore (Former USA Vice President.
He has participated in numerous international and national research projects, with interest in Environmental Management, Chemicals Management, Transport Phenomena and Energy Management
