Hydrocarbons exploration and production is one of union matters. Exploitation of natural gas is governed by the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Act, Cap 328 of the laws of Tanzania and reservoir specific Production Sharing Agreements. Pursuant to the provisions of Cap 328, all Exploration and Development Licences are granted to Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC). The Ministry of Energy and Minerals is drafting Gas Supply Bill, to provide guidance on gas industry development in Tanzania. The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority Act, Cap 414 is umbrella legislation prescribing regulatory duties and functions.
