EWURA Meets Stakeholders to Discuss Safety and Environmental Protection in the EACOP Project

The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) today, held a meeting in Dodoma with officials from the East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project Company (EACOP Ltd), the Fire and Rescue Force, the National Environment Management Council (NEMC), and the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) with the aim of discussing safety and environmental protection issues in the implementation of the EACOP Project. These issues were identified during a recent inspection conducted by EWURA on the implementation of the project’s construction.

Speaking during the meeting, EWURA’s Petroleum Technical Manager, Eng. Shabani Selemani, stated that among the issues discussed were the installation of appropriate fire-fighting and fire disaster control systems, as well as the installation of systems to control emissions of hazardous gases resulting from crude oil loading activities.

He added that these systems will be used during crude oil loading operations under the project to ensure the safety of people, property, and the environment, while also complying with national and international standards in the implementation of the project.
