General Information
Section 5 and 6 of the Electricity Act, Cap. 131 provide mandates to Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) to perform both technical and economic regulation of the Electricity Supply Industry (ESI) in Tanzania Mainland in order to protect stakeholders’ interests and ensuring service providers’ financial viability is sustained. In achieving these objectives, EWURA, among other things, issues licences, enforces quality and reliability of supply, approves rates and charges, approves initiation of procurement of power projects, approves Power Purchase Agreements, ensures security of supply, ensures energy efficiency, promotes effective competition and promotes economic efficiency.
