Regulatory Tools

Section 40 of the EWURA Act Cap 414 and Section 45 of the Electricity Act, Cap 131 provide mandates to the Authority to make subsidiary regulatory tools (Rules, Codes, Guidelines, Manuals and Declarations) in respect of all matters considered necessary or desirable to give effect to the Acts.

To facilitate implementation of these legislation, Section 40 of the EWURA Act Cap 414 mandates EWURA to make rules with respect to regulated services and supply. Since its establishment, EWURA has developed and put into operation various rules related to regulation of electricity sub-sector in Tanzania Mainland. The Electricity Supply Industry in Tanzania Mainland is being regulated by various regulatory tools. These include the policy, laws and regulations developed by ministry responsible for electricity matters as well as standards developed and approved by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS).
