EWURA announces January 2026 Cap Prices for petroleum products
The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has announced cap prices for petroleum products for January 2026, effective from Wednesday, 7 January 2026 at 12:01 a.m., according to a public notice issued by the Director General of EWURA.
The prices apply to petrol, diesel, and kerosene across Tanzania Mainland. In Dar es Salaam, petrol will retail at TZS 2,778 per litre, diesel at TZS 2,726, and kerosene at TZS 2,763, with slightly higher prices recorded in Tanga and Mtwara due to transportation and supply costs.
The January cap prices were influenced mainly by movements in the international oil market. During the pricing period, international Free on Board (FOB) prices declined, with petrol falling by 4.26 percent, diesel by 12.83 percent, and kerosene by 10.44 percent. These decreases helped ease pressure on local pump prices, even as the exchange rate used in price calculations increased slightly during the month.
Premium costs at the country’s ports also affected the final prices. Products received through the Port of Dar es Salaam recorded a general decline in premiums, while Tanga and Mtwara ports experienced increases for some products. These variations reflect differences in supply logistics and market conditions at the respective ports.
EWURA reminds petroleum wholesalers and retailers that the published prices are maximum cap prices and must not be exceeded. Consumers are encouraged to check approved prices by dialling *152*00# free of charge on any mobile network and to buy fuel from stations that display prices clearly and issue electronic fiscal receipts. EWURA will continue to monitor compliance to protect consumers and promote transparency in the petroleum market.
