EWURA releases February 2026 petroleum cap prices

The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has released cap prices for petroleum products, applicable in Tanzania Mainland, effective from Wednesday, 4th February 2026 at 12:01 am. A statement issued by the EWURA’s Director General, Dr. James Mwainyekule, has shown a decrease of the retail prices for diesel by 25 shillings for a consignment received in via Dar es Salaam and  Tanga  ports and 24 shs. for fuel received at the Mtwara port. In addition, the prices of kerosene have decreased by 3 shillings in Dar es Salaam, 17 in Tanga and 18 in Mtwara.

Therefore, the retail prices of the petrol applicable in February is TZS 2,788, 2,849 and 2881 for Dar es Salaam, Tanga and Mtwara respectively, while diesel prices in Dar es Salaam are TZS 2,701, Tanga 2,762 and Mtwara 2,807 and the prices are 2,881, 2,794 and 2,838 TZS in Dar es Salaam,Tanga and Mtwara respectively.

In February 2026, the premiums of products received through Dar es Salaam Port increased by an average of 1.88% for petrol and 1.65% for kerosene, while diesel decreased by an average of 5.10%. Premium decreased by an average of 1.62% for both petrol and diesel for products received through Tanga port. The premium for products received through the Mtwara port decreased by an average of 9.24% for petrol, and there are no changes for diesel.  The applicable exchange rate for February 2026 prices increased by 1.86%.

Wholesalers and retailers are required to sell petroleum products at the indicated prices and legal action will be taken against the non compliants. Retailers must also issue receipts printed from an Electronic Fiscal Pump Printer (EFPP) for all sales that they make and consumers are required to demand and keep receipts.
