Petrol prices drops as EWURA publishes December 2025 caps

DODOMA: The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has released the cap prices of petroleum products applicable for the month of December 2025, indicating a continued drop in petrol prices. Reasons being, a decrease of premiums of the products received through Dar es Salaam Port by an average of 2.4% for petrol, and 3.6% for kerosene. There were no changes in premiums for Tanga and Mtwara Ports
The EWURA’s Director General, Dr. James Mwainyekule, has issued price caps detailing that, the retail prices of petrol for December 2025 decreased by 2.38 shillings in Dar es Salaam, 2.26shillings in Tanga and 2.45shillings in Mtwara. In addition, the price of kerosene has decreased by 120.48 shillings for Dar es Salaam compared to November 2025.
Therefore, the retail prices of petrol applicable this month will be 2610.10, 2616.13 and 2616.24shillings for Dar es Salaam, Tanga and Mtwara respectively. As for diesel, price for Dar es Salaam is 2639.54 shillings, Tanga 2648.86 shillings and Mtwara 2654.32 shillings. The kerosene prices in Dar es Salaam stands at 2513.87 shillings while prices for Tanga and Mtwara remain unchanged.
EWURA requires retailers to issue receipts printed from an Electronic Fiscal Pump Printer (EFPP) for all sales that they make. Also, consumers are required to demand and keep receipts that clearly show the name of the petrol station, the date on which such a purchase was made, as well as the type of petroleum product (fuel) and price per litre for every purchase they make. This can be used as a proof in case of a complaint lodged.
In addition, all petrol stations must publish petroleum product prices on clearly visible boards, clearly showing prices charged, discountsoffered, and any trade incentives or promotions on offer. It is an offence not to have prices published on the stated boards and failure to adhere to this directive will attract punitive measures from EWURA.
